Edward G. Martin: Founder, Owner, President

Edward started buying clunker Beetles back in the early 70’s to rebuild and sell. At the time, his father-in-law owned plenty of acreage in Westlake to work on cars and prep them for sale. Eventually they were purchasing VWs from “yellow sheets” (kind of like a 70’s version of craigslist) which they either rebuilt or sold parts off of. Before he knew it it was a fulltime gig. They moved the operation to Oak Hill in 1979 and quickly outgrew that space, so everything was finally transferred out to our current location in 1984. Edward enjoys the shop. He’s often lingering after hours, or hanging out on the weekends. He’s quick to answer the phone and is really keen on helping his customers. Come stop by and say Hi!

Leeann Martin: Owner, Vice-President

Leeann has added a much needed female presence to the shop and his been a major influence on it’s changing appearance the past few years. Content with making sure VeeDub is a tight ship, Leeann can sometimes be seen touching base with the crew, otherwise she’s behind the scenes, ensuring VeeDub is doing it’s job!

Ryan Laurel: General Manager

Originally from Long Island, NY, Ryan drove into Austin VeeDub needing a tune-up on his ‘91 Jetta after traversing the country to make Austin his new home. There was a Help Wanted sign on the door and the rest is history. He was soon to be invading the mechanic’s toolboxes, bugging everyone to help him identify running issues, and would often be seen holding a random tool shouting, “How do you use this?!”

He still does all that. But now it’s in between crunching numbers, establishing systems and communicating specific goals to the company and crew. Ryan’s business philosophy starts with the Golden Rule, relies on customer feedback, and makes sure communication within the company is first rate.

Randy Hidalgo: Front Office Manager, Cashier, Accounts Receivable

Randy is an on again, off again VW enthusiast who rates Japan as his favorite Asian culture. Inevitably you will cross his path at the Front Office, and usually he’s unwrapping toys, or searching for sneakers on the internet. But he will quickly put all those aside to assist in any questions you may have or to take payments in person or over the phone.

Ricardo Acuna: Building Maintenance

Ricardo is our go to guy whenever something needs to be repaired or cleaned. He keeps VeeDub neat and organized as best he can and has currently been overseeing the upgrade of our recycling program. He basically takes our mess and sorts it out properly. Which, if you work anywhere with a large staff of semi-inconsiderate employees, is a challenge unto itself.

Mike Lucero: Wrecker Driver, Parts Delivery, Car Buyer

Mike is the guy who’ll pick you up if your car is stranded and needs a ride to the shop. Or, he’s the guy who’ll finally get that “piece ‘o crap” out of your driveway for good. Either way, Mike (or Lucy, as we call him) will make sure your vehicle makes it safe to the shop, and that your parts arrive safely to your door. He likes it when you call him beautiful.
